Jose Ortiz, a local artist who works as an illustrator, painter, sculptor and muralist, created the artwork displayed on WLC’s website. Mr. Ortiz is the Visual Arts Director for the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts and the Founder of Hijos Del Sol, a Painters’ Workshop and Muralists’ Program. As an Instructor, Mr. Ortiz is dedicated to helping his young students develop creativity and improve their lives through their artwork. He believes, “Everyone is an artist, we are all creators.”
Jose Ortiz is passionate about his art, “When I draw or paint, I observe, I listen, I feel and sometimes I use the sense of smell. To me it is important to pay as much attention to the smallest detail as to the largest. I am grateful for the images that inspire me to draw, the materials that make my work possible and the thoughts that come from my tireless memory. I cannot ignore those who help make the daily struggle to obtain bread more tolerable.”
